It’s that time of year again! Brace yourselves - the next biggest iReport comin’ up.
Damn nearly every American old enough to remember it, no matter how much or how little it affected them personally, knows exactly where they were and what they were doing when they first heard about the attacks. Me? I was in gym class (before that gym was modified into an uncomfortably gym-themed cafeteria). School went on as scheduled, and the only time I got any real news was in Study Hall via the radio. It wasn’t until I had gotten home that I saw for the first time.
My Aunt had been working in and out of the WTC a month earlier, but her job took an unexpected turn and she no longer needed to go there regularly. It’s not exactly the most close-shave survivor story, but it was enough to make me really think, as a youngin’.
For many of us, it was the first, and arguably still the only time blood was shed on American soil in our lifetimes under the grounds of war. Obviously on this day, 10 years later, we reflect on those who lost their lives, and the future this one singular event that has changed national security forever.
Two things bother me, though.
The first is simple. 10th anniversary terrorist threats. Shut the fuck up. Seriously. News organizations - You’re only fueling the fire; Potential terrorists (and dumb misled redneck extremists) - Go fuck yourself.
The second is the blatant exploitation of the subject we’ve had to deal with over the past 10 years. Let’s pause silently for a moment and remember those who made money off of the tragedies of their fellow man.
